Re: Aluminoob freshman at Collier University

Yes, I took a long break making these posts and when I went back on the aluminum I was modulating and controlling heat just like I have been for a couple years working on mild steel. I can't figure what setting I abused to get pedal to act like on-off switch. Is that even possible? good advice about...

Re: Aluminoob freshman at Collier University

Yes I agree there is lots of brainpower available from all you guys to figure out most any issue and photos greatly increase communication. I appreciate the help tremendously. Here is my AHP control panel. Have since had pretty good luck with 1/8 inch aluminum using AC main amps at 135, start amps a...

Re: Aluminoob freshman at Collier University

Its easier to figure this welding stuff out by trial and error than to upload a photo.

will keep figuring out photo and get back to you

Aluminoob freshman at Collier University

I'm fairly new to tig and have been getting semi-passable mild steel results for my furniture and art projects, but am flummoxed by something on aluminum. My foot pedal controls amps nicely in DC setting when welding steel, but when I switch to AC with no pulse the pedal acts like an on/off switch. ...

Re: How Much Skin Protection for TIG UV?

For gosh sakes don't TIG while wearing a "polo" type shirt. A couple of years ago I ordered a new Alpha 200 and got all my gear together while waiting on shipment. Tig gloves, protective sleeves, had my Ar bottle full. I was ready to go when the big day came and the brown truck came by. I ...

Re: AC problem

Thanks Southpaw.
I'm just a beginner with TIG, but so far the AHP has exceeded my expectations. Jody's videos and advice from this forum has really helped my progress.

Re: AC problem

Yep, balance.
AHP is bass ackwards. re-set to 25% and immediately started laying down beads. Moved too slow at first and got hot cracking. set amps to 150, got on the pedal, and started motoring with no problem.
1/8 4043. 1/16 melted before I got close to the puddle.
Thank you everyone!

AC problem

Am a noob, but with some coaching, I have been doing some semi-decent mild steel tig. Tried to light up on aluminum for the first time ever this am and met with total disaster... don't even know what to think. tungsten melted immediately and crap flew all over the table Aluminum turned black and loo...

Re: New bottle now brown soot

BTW, I switched back to known good bottle of argon and everything welded perfectly. Again switched to new bottle and it was as if I was welding w/o gas.

Guess I will be going back to LWS next week.

New bottle now brown soot

I think I may know the answer to this one, but would like another opinion. Running a few beads on a mild steel project this am and argon bottle got close to empty. I switched over to a fresh bottle I picked up last week at LWS, purged the lines to the torch, changed nothing on settings or equipment,...

Re: tig t joint with different thickness steel

Minnesota Dave and others,
Cranked the amps to 130 and worked the pedal. 'sneaked the puddle" over to the thin stuff, kept it motoring along, and things went great.

Thank you again.

Hello

Another (older) newby posting for the first time. I grew up oxyacetylene cutting and stick welding farm equip to keep it running, but moved on to other pursuits (such as actually making money). Just within the last few years I got the itch to start making steel yard art and wooden and steel furnitur...
