Re: My attempt at a welding cart..

looks like solid work, I like it. Congrats and enjoy it. Cheers Louie! Might well be a generation thing, but among old guys there is an opinion no welding cart should be painted for 5 years so you can work all the kinks out of the cart. Yep.. I kind of thought about that after I had had painted it....

My attempt at a welding cart..

I finally got around to making a cart for my machines and gas cylinders. I still have some work to do on it for things like cable and gas management and possibly rod storage. I really would've loved a larger and more robust table to fabricate it on as the cart is not quite square and has a slight tw...

Re: Help with aluminum project

Thought I'd post an update after all the helpful replies I got to my original question. First to Ozflo, I'm working on a FHC. I've already built a '53 XK120 roadster and got bored after I finished it so decided to improve on all I learned building that one and do a coupe. Very nice! But we need pic...

Ahh I see your problem.. you are trying to weld an Aluminum hood instead of an Aluminium bonnet..

Sorry.. just messing with you. :P

Jags from that era have gorgeous lines. Which model is it?

Its a little hard to justify shipping unfortunately, however i may just bite the bullet. I trust Jodies products no question. He is a legend and i expect he would never put his name to something apart from quality. https://www.boc.com.au/wcsstore/AU_BOC_CatalogueAS/images/product/en_AU/large/b45v25...

Re: leather neck protection

Oz, Tillman makes a leather bib for adding to a hood (part #566). I don't like the metal attachment clips they come with so I pop rivet mine on. Never tried attaching them with Velcro but don't think it would hold up in the long run. In general you want it on there securely so it stays in place and...

Re: leather neck protection

I have been wondering this too and after looking around at various options I am going to buy a cheap leather welders apron and sacrifice it to make the pieces I need. The other option to drilling would be to attach some velcro or other hook and loop type product to the inside of your helmet with eit...

I used to use Milwaukee 18v tools when I was doing building maintenance a couple of years back. Not a bad choice and will fill your requirements nicely.

Re: H&F horizontal band saw (Aussie)

Nice one Kym! I have the BS-5S from H&F but I found that it is necessary to set it up properly to make straight cuts. The orientation of material to be cut also seems to have an effect on cut quality.

Re: My fire pit..

I like your fire pit the welds look good to me, its not gonna fall apart and you did it yourself, so you accomplished your goal, and that's good. A little tip...any welder who is worth his salt will find something wrong with his own weld...a weee bit of undercut here, a small piece of slag stuck fa...

Re: Aussie Mig advice, please!

The plain bearing is a miracle of engineering when you consider how it works and the load it takes, doesn't take much grit to root that all to hell. In a former life I was an aircraft maintenance engineer for an airline and as an apprentice I spent some time overhauling big gas turbine engines. Lot...

Re: Aussie Mig advice, please!

You don't just want to have a go with a roll of flux core for the time being? No, not really. The idea of maybe buying a Mig is that I can tack joints and brackets on my bike projects while in the shed, then move it to my garage (where the Tig lives) for final welding. I don't want to have to clean...
