Re: Hi from Sydney!
I just bought my first TIG a couple weeks ago. I was after one of the more "economical" ones, either red or green but not one of those cheapo ebay specials. Green was out of stock and no idea when they'd have more so I checked out the red ones. Saved some money too, performance and feature...

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)
I was going to do it in aluminium but I'm a plumber and all my fittings and brassware and such is in BSP 1/2 3/4 etc. Couldn't find any weld in bungs in these sizes in aluminium. Plus there was mention that alloy tanks pit out and need to be replaced ever 4-5 years or so from the copper in the power...

Damnit. Lol Rupe, awesome water cooler! Must be nice to use a wp20 now. I just used my wp17, and it will is smaller than our 26's at work, but it is a lot bigger than the 20 we had at the last shop lol. It will be awesome to use a 20. I keep taking it out of the box and thinking if I'd only hurry u...

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)
Nice looking pass imo, if its something important and I see undercut I'll go over and cap it. But I find theres only so much heat/filler that can go in a single pass before the edges start melting and cutting back in too much. As for noisy grinders have you tried pulse on your angle grinder  I ...

Re: mini grinder to sharpen tungeusten
Just realized this morning this isn't "Drill Doctor" I think this is actually a cheapo imitation of a cheapo tool. But I've seen them everywhere so must be pretty common. Saw one on ebay for $80AU brand new. Guess the main thing is if you can probably get hold of one of these or something ...

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)
Yeah, no such thing as cheap copper. I'm a plumber and get about $7 a kilo as scrap which is pretty good. I've bought some heavy bits of copper bar from Brass and Copper here in Sydney for around $20 a kilo. They also had a sheet of 1800 x 900 x 1.6mm for $340+gst. Didn't want to spend that much so ...

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)
Tig'd up some 20 gauge copper sheet to form a tank for a home made tig cooler. Don't have a folder or guillotine so couldn't do it with laps and solder. Silver brazing and lead solder didn't work so well with butt joints, copper just warped and moved everywhere. Anyway I welded it up and it doesn't ...

Re: mini grinder to sharpen tungeusten
I was using a grinding wheel in a 5" grinder and the cordless drill but found a better option the other day. Tried talking my father out of buying a Drill Doctor a few years ago but couldn't change his mind and somehow it ended up at my place. Anyway they are next to useless imo for sharpening ...

I've been on a few forums in my time, mostly motorcycling. Always a good showing of Aussies on them. I think we just sit on our arses in front of the pc a bit too much

TIG welding sheet copper
I'm making a box out of copper just as something to do. Well actually its a tank for a home made tig cooler. I read something about pitting of aluminium tanks due to the cathodic action of the water/copper power lead etc etc and they only last a few years.. So in the spirit of over-engineering I bou...

Hi all, Just signed up after watching Jody's vids for the past couple years. What a massive help they have been. Takes away 90% of the fumbles involved in picking up a new skill. I'm a Plumber and did a little oxy welding of steel and even lead back in my apprenticeship, and years ago did a weekend ...
