Re: Anyone here into anvils/forging?

Score for you! That cleaned up real nice. I did some digging and found a post here: http://www.practicalmachinist.com/vb/antique-machinery-and-history/peter-wright-anvil-156284/ ...that says the 1-3-21 is the weight, and it translates to 1 x 110 lbs + 3 x 11 lbs + 21 lbs, for a total of 164 lbs. An...

Re: Anyone here into anvils/forging?

Yeah I've been on there and iforgeiron deciding how to mount the thing. I'm going for stuff I have lying around. That will be a fun project in itself. I'm thinking a tripod out of 3" pipe, welded up to a piece of left over 3/4 plate. One under the horn and 2 under the other end, I have a pretty...

Anyone here into anvils/forging?

Just had the freight guys drop off an anvil and 2 leg vices I bought from the middle of nowhere in South Australia. I knew the anvil was a Peter Wright but no idea of the condition really other than how it was described over the phone. The last time the old fella that had it had taken a photo the ca...

I was gonna post in this thread and say that I've had mine about 9 months and its been fine. Then thought whats the point of that, not really useful info. However went to use it today and battery is gone. Its reading 2.2V. So I got a new battery and all is well but I'll go measure the new one and se...

Re: Spray transfer

I use it when I can, its a great process. No penetrations or issues, just really fast and hot. I use a proprietary mix here from BOC called Argoshield Light for general purpose mig stuff. Its made up of the following. 3.1% Oxygen, 5% Carbon Dioxide 91.9% Argon I don't think its ideal for spray but c...

Re: Question .. TIG push or pull ?

Push or straight up and down. Pulling the torch with a little angle and trying to keep a tight gap between electrode and base metal is a bit tricky if you have to also feed in rod over the raises stack of bead you just laid with out fouling the tungsten, cleaning (if aluminium) and heat probably isn...

Re: Bleeding off pressure on argon lines

I've got a couple flow meters with the ball. Also have 3 or 4 pressure gauge style ones. Has bottle pressure on one dial and flow rate on the other dial. I don't think it makes a huge difference accuracy wise. Might be able to see the ball and where it is in the column from a distance unlike the gau...

Re: Erratic arc

Disassemble the torch would be my next step. Check the gas connection inside the torch and make sure its not damaged, in fact it only takes a few minutes I'd check the whole line. At least then you can rule that out. You may be able to block it off and get pressure, but It may not be flowing adequat...

Re: Accessorize a Noob's TIG Rig

Not all motors will run on a vfd. They need to have the correct insulation on the windings to handle the heat. Probably from trying to crank up the torque at low speed. I use one of these for grinding tungsten. Shit machine for sharpening drill bits but my Dad couldn't be talked out of it. Once he ...

Thats one of the few legitimate uses for a hobby 3D printer. I see people gathered around them in shops sometimes and think yeah thats cool.... but what the hell are gonna do with it after you've made all those useless knickknacks lol

Re: New foot pedal

My one pretty much comes out without unscrewing now and is bent up enough that the internal stop inside the pot is taking the load. That might damage the pot, I reckon just drill it out and stick and M4 nut and bolt on it will fix it.

Opened it up. Nothing out of the ordinary, no magic but decent engineering. Pedal slots onto the square shaft on each side with the 4 bolts and 2 plates retaining it. Square shaft rides on delrin bushes. http://i384.photobucket.com/albums/oo288/rupes76/Welding/20170205_122002_zps4ndszsef.jpg http://...

If you need something smaller you can always go with a micro encabulator

Naturally the price point increases when powered by the modial interaction of the capacitive distractance and magneto-reluctance as most models currently are.

OP, I think these clowns are taking the piss. WTF is a flestarus, sheepshank or debronolver. What's next, headlight fluid, exhaust bearings? As for your original question re liner, save your time and ditch it altogether and install a retro encabulator instead. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXJKdh1...

I think its fantastic. Its one of those things that open up new ways of making things you never thought of before. Who needs a 3d printer that makes useless nicknacks when you can melt down some scrap and pour your own castings.

You mentioned having the same pedal in that other thread, do you have a tokentools machine?

I opened mine up to take an output off the gas solenoid relay. I don't thing it was too hard to open up. Probably wouldn't hurt to give it blow out with the air gun once in a while.

I'd build an aluminium 6 pack holder and lid on the side. Put a drain plug and hose on the bottom. And a salt dispenser/hopper over the top of it. Add six pack, water and some ice and drop a load of salt on top and you have a 3 minute emergency beer cooler. AVE vid I saw yonks ago re salt and ice tr...
