Defuzzing deerskin gloves?

I bought a few pairs of deerskin Tillman gloves a while back and just got around to using a pair. I've got a job where I'm working welding 18gauge CRS sheet and the fuzz is coming off on the sharp edges while I position pieces to weld. I'm sure that fuzz will contaminate the weld cosmetically which ...

Re: Aluminum craters, Chinese pedal adjustment, feedback

Elderberry, which sharp corners? The wooden corners? Tablesaw cutting 45 degree corners. I put blue painters' tape along the cutline to limit chipping of the veneer. Biscuits to align glue up. Walnut plywood has very thing veneer so sanding is touchy to not round off and go through the veneer. Hope ...

Re: Furniture - New Endtable - English Wheel

bobruddy, short answer, no. glass is sitting directly on metal. ick, but I have set this piece up in my booth twice a month at local markets for several months without any ill effect. Honestly, I had initially planned on putting a piece of thin vinyl or possibly cork but nothing fit after final weld...

Re: Aluminum in Concrete - no good

Thanks for the responses. Powder coating is a good idea but I'd like to find something I can do in-house to keep the costs low. I realize that I will need to change the internal foot design to be much cleaner and easier to ensure that all surfaces are coated. My prototype has so many nooks and crann...

Re: Aluminum in Concrete - no good

Sealing the concrete would only help if the curved support was mounted on the concrete pads. In this case an aluminum frame is embedded inside the concrete on each end to support the piece and the concrete. I'm testing a roof patch material but it's such a mess to work with. I'll check into an epoxy...

Aluminum in Concrete - no good

While selling furniture in my booth, I am often asked about placing some of my steel/wood pieces outside. Typically I say that I don't recommend it. at all. ever. But seeing how often I get the question I have started working on a new idea for a table that can be placed outdoors. My thought process ...

Re: Furniture - New Endtable - English Wheel

Craig, the glass slips into a slot so that it's supported underneath and captured on top. The center support acts as a fulcrum as items are placed on top. The back has a "smiley" face shaped slot that the glass slides into. I did not want to leave the back's upper edge exposed as a single ...

Re: Furniture - New Endtable - English Wheel

Thanks Minnesota Dave (I think ;) ) I may try a variation on this one and either grind/polish the entire piece smooth or grind the welds and then patina/rust the entire piece. Thanks Motox. Being curious and learning about sooo many things, it's just not cost effective to by high end equipment unles...

Re: Furniture - New Endtable - English Wheel

Thanks. Actually it is finished. I used a die grinder w scotchbrite pads on all of the pieces after wheeling but before welding to get rid of scratches. I like the HAZ rainbow along the edge and have left it in my other pieces. I wiped on a coat of Flood Penetrol to protect the finish. As a recoveri...

Furniture - New Endtable - English Wheel

My previous pieces incorporated sweeping bends in the wood or square tubular steel. I've been playing around with some different ideas and going in a different direction. I bought an inexpensive english wheel from Northern Tool, a Harbor Freight "Beverly shear" knockoff, and made a Wray Sc...

Re: value of used dynasty 350

Thanks for the input MFleet and Poland308. I decided to take a deep breath, cool my jets, and let this one pass. I think the realistic plan is to wait and buy either a Miller 210DX or 280DX OR an Everlast 255EXT and plan on grabbing some helium when/if I need a little more juice. I think I know the ...

Re: value of used dynasty 350

Oscar, I think you raise an interesting point. What exactly does "hobby" mean? In my original post, I jokingly called it a hobby in the sense that I'm not turning a profit yet. I've bought equipment, filed LLC, business cards, rented spaces at markets over the course of the last 12 months....

Thanks for the input and talking me off of the ledge  I need to put the Internet down and walk away... for my own good. A 10y.o. value of used dynasty 350

Yes, I'm still perusing Craigslist and hoping to find a used Dynasty. I can't help myself  In general, I'm looking for an inverter Dynasty over the bullet-proof Syncro due to its variety of pulser settings that would be useful for welding thin metals. I also weld aluminum on occasion so a water...

Iso Tunes Ear plugs - love'em

I just got a pair of Iso Tunes Pro ear plugs and really like them. With a NRR of 27dB, they can be used for moderate hearing protecti...

Update: I've been using the saw for the past month, mostly square cuts until yesterday. Yesterday I was mitering a lot of 45's with some interesting Y junctions of 3 square tubes. The fit up was perfect. The particular features I like are the quick adjust vice, the hydraulic feed, and the ease of an...

Swivel Head Bandsaw

Looking for feedback on the smaller swivel head bandsaws, particularly the Baileigh BS-128M. Are they accurate? Will they return to square if swiveled to cut an angle? I currently have an old Jet horizontal bandsaw, 64.5" blade, the typical 4x6. I work out of my garage making custom furniture a...

Re: Aluminum craters, Chinese pedal adjustment, feedback

thanks! Too bad I unloaded my Pioneer gear years ago... I think a tasteful tube amp would be good. Motox, which radius, the diagonal coverlet facing in? that was plasma cut and fitted. square tubing? in some cases, yes and in some cases, no. I have a pile of test pieces figuring out how to make them...
