Re: AL & SS: AC/DC machine choice: switch or pedal
I have a dynasty 210dx that I bought for 5200$ with a wireless foot pedal included. I could have bought a 280dx for about the same price but I was thinking about making repairs at the track with 110v power. Bottom line is I should have bought the 280dx, because I still haven't used it with 110 power.

I would be surprised if blue demon wasn't shit, but even my alcotec rods need to be scotch brited and cleaned with acetone before welding.

You don't need a "tungsten grinder" until you are iso9001.

I think switching to 2% ceriated(grey) or lanthanated(blue) is the first step in solving this problem. E3 is for the hardcore thoriated fanboys. The pictures look like you dipped it, but you wouldn't be posting if you dipped it right?

Re: Which alloy for motorcycle bash-plate (sump guard)?
I weld 5052 with 5554 filler. I couldn't find much about the max operating temp of 5052 or 5083, but I know the as welded strength is higher than 6061. I have never heard concerns about the alloy itself at temperature. Only the weld. If you look at the Hobart and Alcotec filler metal charts you will...

Re: Pulse Spray Stainless
I did some SS spray transfer with metal core on some heavier stuff. I think it was made by Esab, but it could have been Hyundia or Sandvik. I used 100% Argon, but I know it said 98/2 or 100% argon on the box. I don't know if you could weld non-horizontal with it.

Re: cleaning metal before MIG
Water is the only contaminate I've found to wreck a mig weld with porosity. I worked as the welder in a machine shop most of last year. I would just wipe the coolant off with a dry rag, but that was spray transfer.

I would suggest practicing without filler until you get the color you want, then try to duplicate with filler.

I cut the bottom off of an old BMW oil pan and welded in a 6061 box with hinged baffles and extra quart capacity. I used 4043. That project was done with my Diversion 165 5 years ago, and is the primary reason I don't recommend anyone buying that machine. It held up for the 3 seasons I raced that ca...

How exactly would you convert this to propane? There are not many choices for kits setup for propane.cj737 wrote:And you could of course use Propane in lieu of Acetylene (pardon if thats what the link showed)

Re: Taking a different approach to independent EN and EP amp
I just got the expansion for my 210dx. You guys mentioned being able to change the waveshape on both sides, but It seams that I can only adjust it for EN. I just did an update right before I plugged in the expansion. When I started welding with it at near 200 amps it vaporized the end of my tungsten...

I have to weld a gas tank that has previously had gas in it. Umm... No you don't! When all you have is a hammer everything looks like a nail right. You didn't say what kind of tank it is, so I'll assume It's a very rusty automotive tank. Is J-B Weld resistant to water and/or gasoline? When fully cu...

I bought all new Makita brushless cordless tools in the last year. Home depot often has deals where you get extra tools or batteries. When I was at Fabtech the Metabo guys said that their cordless grinders are made in Germany, but I had already bought the Makita stuff. I don't necessarily believe hi...

Learning to tig weld is great, but you should probably make friends with someone with a mig. Seam sealer and undercoating burn and make a big sticky flaming mess.

Re: Unstable AC Arc on low current
Lots of machines have a hard time getting a stable start in ac at low amperage. I don't know about your machine, but that is why there is a setting for tungsten diameter. The engineers have determined how high the starting amperage needs to be to get a stable arc. Bigger tungsten means higher starti...

No reason to have a big lens, It's just heavier. I consider the infinity to be ridiculously heavy compared to the classic series. The infinity doesn't balance in the up position on its own so they put in a stiff detent to hold it up. The detent always lets go at the worst time and smashes into the d...

Anyone own an HTP Pro Pulse 200 or Stel Iron Mig 221P?
I like to have all the features, and I can't afford a Miller 350P aluminum right now so I'm looking at the 200A Italian machines. I like the fact that these machines are designed to run aluminum with just a liner and tip change. The HTP has programming for USA spec wire and gases, but its perpetuall...

Re: Tungsten problems
Tungsten stickout will effect the shielding and how nasty your tungsten looks. Depends on type of cup or lense, but your stickout should always be as short as possible.
