Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)
Hey Craig, yes I did use that amount of stickout. I almost always run 25 CFH unless I have to do some insane weld where I need more stickout. With this cup I have been able to run over 2" and still see coverage.

Thanks for the kind words guys! I am still learning and progressing a ton with each job. Sorry to post again so soon but I was doing some more exhaust work today and these are my best welds to date IMO.

Re: Dynasty Arc Start
The only reason I use 3/32 tungsten is because the diffuser in the cup I use is only designed to be used with 3/32 tungsten. Thank you very much for your input! I may end up giving 1/16 thoriated a try to see where that gets me. I do remember this being an issue for me even when I used 1/16 to weld ...

Dynasty Arc Start
So I have recently been welding a bit of .035" wall 3" 625 Inconel tubing, practicing for an upcoming exhaust project. Everything is welding up just fine however I find the arc starts leave allot to be desired. I have been told this is somewhat an issue with 625. Just wondering if anyone h...

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)
Got it all welded up today. Pretty happy with where my welds are at but I could still use some more practice. Also, my back purge could have used a bit more flow.

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)
It's really not as time consuming as you would think. There was allot of weld time and back purging involved but as for cutting, I have a good bandsaw which has cut my time at least in half. I can setup a cut, while it is cutting I debut and tack the previous piece.

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)
Every joint specified that requires gussets is where there would be two bars intersect to form an X. I would certainly agree that for most cases FIA is overkill. It is just great information to know. I find drift cages to be an absolute joke. Mind you the crashes that a drift car will see are very ...

Also, I was really thinking about getting rid of DOM completely and switching to CDS tubing. The CDS is more money but I hate how dirty and inconsistent DOM is. Saving some time on prep could easily balance the extra cost.

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)
I used the pulse settings on my Dynasty along with a lay wire technique. Settings were 1.5pps, 50 peak time, 25 background at 109 peak current. May try a slightly higher background on the next one but these settings allowed me to do nice long runs without warping the steel or heating it up too much....

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)
So it appears that there are quite a few cage builders here! That is very good to know. Pretty much all of my cages, with the exception of drag cars, get built to FIA specs. I honestly don't know one form of road racing that does not accept thier regulations. I would certainly recommend anyone who b...

I very seldom pick up a mig but I have been trying to get more practice lately. This is just a fold down spare tire carrier ...

Re: First stainless TIG
There is allot to this subject. One big factor will be your cup setup, use a gas lense(sorry just saw that you did use a #8 lense). It makes a HUGE difference. Second, coverage and travel speed somewhat go hand in hand. The reason you get colours is when the steel is over a certain temperature and i...

Re: Cage welding and torch trigger
My last welder I used a switch for the whole cage because the pedal was impossible to keep stationary. Since getting my Miller I have been in foot pedal bliss. I would never go back. Also, if you find yourself in really bad positions duct tape the pedal to your foot so you can push it against anythi...

Also, I tack welded a 3-4" concentric reducer to a piece of 4" stainless so I had a piece to clamp to and reference to make sure it was straight. I then pie cut the reducer. This was my second time doing this and it works like a charm!

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)
I cut with a water cooled band saw and deburr with a belt sander. I used to use a chop saw but it was terrible, more time deburring and dressing then actually welding them. To calculate them I always do 5 degree cuts so each piece equals 10 degrees. Some people do 4.5 degree so you can make 45 degre...

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)
Pie cuts tend to get crapped on by allot of people. The truth is they are EXTREMELY helpful. I had to bend this downpipe elbow up to clear the wastegates and then down right away... All while transitioning from 3" to 4". They 4" bends I have don't have a tight enough radius to do this.

Do you drill a hole for gasses to escape when you are closing up the welds? I think I may have to build some cubes just for practice, ouside corners are my kryptonite.
