Re: Something happened.

My tungsten has black stuff all over it. Man, I was grinding the heck out of it. I looked and it was still there. haha I thought I could just cut the dirty part off. But, I will follow your advice.

Re: Something happened.

So, I got new tungsten a day or so ago. I tried it out today. This was a little piece I had cut out. It worked. I was super happy. Then, I went back to the thing I am working on. No dice. haha I had 400 grit sand paper. I realized that was not getting the weld off the metal. I just got my grinder ou...

Re: Something happened.

I thought it was just regular aluminum. haha I called and got a 4 x 4 sheet of it. The odd thing is, that it just randomly started. It is like 100 degrees out. LOL So, I did not weld today.

Re: Something happened.

I was having bad luck. So, my mind was like, not working. haha Makes sense though. I will get the tank filled tomorrow. You know, I would love to make stuff with copper. Would I not need 100% helium for that? Also, I know I got a 60/40 mixture. Being as I am, I just can't remember what it was of. LO...

Re: how to make a shape or shapes

Thinking more. First, cutting the aluminum, with a jig saw, is impossible. haha I have two half moon shapes. I would cut the center out. I can not do it with the saw. I was thinking of what you said. What if I drilled small holes, 1/2 inch to 1 inch apart? Various parts of the metal that is the hair...

Re: how to make a shape or shapes

You just blew my mind. haha I will need aluminum wire I guess. This is what I thought last night. I wondered, if the weight of the hair, the way I have it now, would bend the thing. You know what I mean? So, I thought, what if I got one of those drill things, that people use to put holes in wood. Th...

how to make a shape or shapes

Hello, so, I am making something. It is aluminum. I am teaching myself to tig weld. I want to make the hair, look like it is curly. How would I cut it to look like that? I thought, just drill holes in parts and cut curved lines. Thoughts?

Sold my friend. haha Ok, I will start saving for that instead of the mig welder.

Man, when my dad died in 03, his family came and took everything of his. I wish, so much, that I could have his welder. I have no clue what happened to any of his stuff.

Re: Mig welders

Well, by getting a mig machine, it seems I would put less on the Bobcat. But, that is a good idea. haha

I should say. I am new. I just saved and got a Bobcat one day. So, I will have to search the web, to understand what you said. haha

Mig welders

Alright, I got a Bobcat a year or so ago and an AHP tig. Now, I want a mig welder. I saw that AHP has a mig, with a 60% duty cycle. I dig their tig welder. So, I was going to wait 6 months and get one from them. I just went on Eastwoods site and saw that they have the mig 250, that also has a 60% du...

Re: Bobcat 250 and metal thickness

Back again. I tried making the cart last year. I had problems. haha The metal was rectangle tube. So, it would not go tight agains other parts. Thus, there was a gap at the top and bottom. So, by time I got it hooked, it had melted holes in it. I have the chart, showing the Miller cart. That is what...

Scrap metal AND a cart.

Ok, wow, it has been a long time since I have been on this site. I need two things. First, does anyone know, of a place in Maryland, that lets you go through scrap metal? I want a place I can get a bunch of random metal. I am the kind of dude that just sees something in his mind and makes it. haha S...

Re: New to tig welding.

HAH! So, I was setting the amps, by the 1/8 mild steel. 85-120. BUT, I then read that the 3/32 tungsten, needs like, 130 - 150. SO, I cranked my AHP up to 150, with a starting amps of like, 100 - 120 and I finally got a puddle. I felt like a freaking bird at the park. So happy to see that puddle. It...

Yes, I don't care about all the stuff right now. However, I do need to know what to set the stuff on. I suppose that is trial and error. I ordered a book today. It was a penny. haha Gas Tungsten Arc Welding Handbook. So, I will see what I learn from that. So, these are pictures of what I tried today...
