Exactly what is was . To small of a bend radius by 3/8ths . They called me in to figure out why they failed the test. When I walked in the aluminum was sitting on rusty work table , grinder with a regular wire wheel , and a couple grinding wheels . No stainless brushes and no acetone to clean with .

We tried pre and post heating to no avail . I did figure out the problem they were having . The bender they were using to test the test lives was not correctly setup .

6061 to 5083 plate problems
Ok guys , I'm having a problem with the 6061 breaking in the haz . I'm using 5356 .047 wire . 100%argon . I'm running around 130 to 160 Amps on a xmt 350 . Everything has been cleaned with acetone and stainless steel wire brush . I've also tried to use a helium argon mix and even did inter pass temp...

Rick H it's generally where there is a a stop and start at , i wish I could video it for you guys to show you . It literally looks like it balls up and doesn't want to flow in just ball up . The purge pressure is around 10 to 15 . Yes always same position, I'm sure it's the operator and not material...

Yes I'm purging with a purge balloon,also having this problem when doing the tie in , it doesn't seem to want to flow , it just balls up . It looks like when you stopped you didn't get good gas shielding, so when you resumed the weld the filler didn't want to flow. Perhaps your post flow is too sho...

Im in a basement with a pretty good draft . Everytbing is brand new as well torch , all consumables , regulator, gas hose and welding machine. I will try turning it down and check for leaks .

This isn't the cap of course but it looks the exact same . I think its a gas issue. Im running 30 to 45 cfh and can barley feel the gas coming out the lens .

Sorry about that 80 to 90 amps 3/32 filler rod . Its pretty gray , some have reds and blues with some gold

Not really a welded project . But its a knife made from a railroad spike. Heated with a rose bud and forged , then heat treated. And semi polished .

Just an update guys , thanks for all the help i did pass the test. It was 2 test actually, i had to take a stick pipe test as well , talk about a surprise. Both test were taken in carbon schd 120 .tig test welded out with 309L. Stick was tig root and hot pass then stick the rest. I appreciate all th...

I appreciate all the help and quick replies. I havent had to make a cert weld on pipe in quit awhile. I'll be sure and let you kniw the outcome and thanks again .

Im not really sure why im even certifing to this capacity for the job we are doing . It will be pretty much coupling welds except for the flanges . A little over kill if you ask me , but ill take the certification if they wanna pay for it . Lol this all great stuff to know and i cant thank you enoug...

Taking a welding test tomorrow , havent taken one in a few years . Is anyone familiar with ASME section IX ? Just trying to get some general info regarding the procedures beings im not familiar with it . Thanks in advanced
