Tried welding razor blades for the first time. All considered pretty happy with it. I should have gotten some mig wire, the 1/16 filler made this harder than it needed to be but the Dynasty arc is so damn sweet.

Re: Dynasty 210 DX
My experience is probably not going to be helpful to anyone as I have nothing to compare against, but for what it's worth, I've been using it a few hours at least 3-4 times a week since I got it in early Dec and it's been flawless. I waited until I could get the best to learn on. I only turned it on...

China vs Miller plasma cutter?
Hi, my name is Dmitry and I'm a brand whore. I am also not rich, sadly. My first welder was/is the Lincoln 180 MIG PAK, which has served me flawlessly, even got the spool gun for aluminum welding. I waited for the right opportunity to snag the right TIG, getting the Dynasty 210DX at a trade show and...

Re: Looking to buy metal saw..
Hey there fellow Canuck. Princess Auto to the rescue: http://www.princessauto.com/en/detail/14-in-dry-cut-metal-saw/A-p8539009e I'm kind of pissed that the sale is on now as I've been hounding it for a long time but I got a great deal on the Dewalt so I got that. My friend has the PA saw, I've used ...

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)
Nothing exciting but I went to the garage to get something and couldn't resist doing a practice nemesis weld. Normally I have to warm up running beads or I screw up. Did this one cold and it's one of my best yet! Still overheated on me at the end but instead of flaring out like I usually get I backe...

Well done BigD! I think perhaps you and I are at similar stages with our welding. We can do 'functional', we just have a little way to go on 'pretty'. :D Love the car, by the way. Kym Thanks Kym! Yeah the skills required to do it well in the real world aren't the same as what you need to do it on a...

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)
First practical aluminum welding on the racecar. I used the stock aluminum bumper to use it to hang the splitter. But it came with a plastic moulding in the middle which upon being removed, left a deep ugly trough. I had a strip made to fit the middle and been trying to learn how to weld thin to thi...

Re: Gray Clouds When trying to tig cast
I'm a TIG rookie but I've been getting somewhat OK with aluminum until I went to try to fix a broken part of a flood light stand - an insert in one of the legs connecting it to the main assembly, broke in half. Every time I tried hitting it with the welder, even at low amps, it gave off grey smoke a...

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)
To get a shiny rainbow effect there are a few things you need. Good gas coverage, it helps to use a large gas lense if you can't maintain a good torch angle. Have to have the tubing surgically clean. I use emery cloth around the cope till it is polished. I then use a die grinder with a sanding whee...

Re: Torch switch for a 14pin connection
The welding shop had one of those too and I was playing with it for a long time trying to convince myself to get one. The shop bought it way back when the dollar was at parity so they're selling it for less than I can get it anywhere online new. But it's still 180 bucks monopoly money so I passed. I...

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)
Haha, thanks Kym! The joint will be stronger with ER70S. You probably need to clean the surface better with a sander or something. Can you see the puddle good? Is your lens too dark? It looks to me like you might be having just a little trouble seeing the puddle and that might be causing your bead s...

Re: Greetings from Canada
Yup thats what I do, picked it up from Jody's videos. Jack the amps by 50% and smash it while holding tight. It makes a nice surface tack without melting back the corner. Strong as wet tissue paper but keeps it in place while not putting much heat in the work

Went back to get more mileage out of this pipe. Cleaned up the joint, looks much better. Did half the weld with 309. What's the word on joining mild steel with 309, better, worse, same as er70s? Sure looks prettier

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)
Well, if I only post my best it's just bragging, not learning. So here is my practice for today. Still learning TIG in prep for doing the front half of my rollcage (did the rear a few years back with MIG) I try to start each session with a 1/8" aluminum fillet as it shows my bad habits and tech...

Thanks for the diagram, that's what I ended up doing. Works great, esp with around 2s of downslope to reposition. All for 40 bucks.

Re: Greetings from Canada
Thanks a lot guys! My current bane of welding existence is thick to thin aluminum (say 1/16" to 1/4"). Once I get a tack I can move out and weld fine by focusing the heat on the thick stuff. But for the life of me I can't get it to tack without filler. No matter what I do, the thin stuff b...

Torch switch for a 14pin connection
Hi guys! I'm new to TIG and I've been getting a few hours a day practice for the past few weeks, and progress has been good thanks to Jody's videos. I've already done a few practical projects which turned out well, including out of position stuff, working the pedal with my knee and such. Anyway, I d...

Greetings from Canada
Jody's videos have helped me get through learning MIG years back and now helping me get decent at TIG. Normally I just look for answers, since just about every question has already been addressed on the internet but sometimes you have to ask your own and here I am! Aluminum fillets have been the har...
