Re: Another Dry Saw/Bandsaw question

Be sure and post back if/when you make a decision, I'd like to know what you buy and how it works for your fabrication projects. I kind of got lucky and found a brand new Evosaw380 still in the box on Craigslist for $300 and a new Jet 5X6 horizontal bandsaw for $290 also on Craigslist. I sent both ...

Re: Another Dry Saw/Bandsaw question

so I ended up getting a low cost Chinese manufactured band saw. Comes with variable speed direct drive motor 1hp and swivel head. Cuts any thickness you like and I've cut 4" sched 40 pipe no problems. It was described to me as not being a production model, but more suited to the handyman or tr...

Re: Another Dry Saw/Bandsaw question

I've got the Morse Metal Devil ($459 on Amazon) It's been a great saw for the last two years. Only complaint is I wish it had a quick release vise. https://www.amazon.com/Morse-CSM14MB-14-Inch-Dry-Cut-Cutting/dp/B000IHXOKI I saw a good review on that saw, it's also on my list of tools to consider.

Another Dry Saw/Bandsaw question

Hi guys, After my last project that I ended up scrapping a bunch of metal due to the inaccuracies of cuts I got from my abraisive chop saw I've decided to spend the money and purchase a quality saw that will give me repeatably accurate cuts both 90 and 45 degrees. My budget is in the $600 range whic...

Re: 3D printed Tungsten Sharpener

Love the resin, wish my printer were that sophisticated!

I ended up removing my printed part and just use the diamond wheel by turning the tungsten between my fingers. I got lazy taking it off and putting it back on when I needed my Dremel for other things.

I bought one and love it! Can't beat the price for what you get. Here are a couple reviews to help you decide, the first is SouthPaw's review of the 2015? model and the second is a comparison video of similar priced machines: http://forum.weldingtipsandtricks.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=7325&p=5...

Unfortunately, I have first hand experience with this: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Z3OpmPm4rTA/Vq4mdH6q7mI/AAAAAAAABYs/zZXctOi4R5U/s640-Ic42/IMG_0911.jpg I was grinding on one of my welds when the sparks caught some flammable items I had on the shelf close by on fire. $50K damage and my insur...

Re: Looking to buy metal saw..

Not having seen these Dry Cut saws I will say I'm impressed, I've been looking at the Portaband saws with the Swag Offroad table and now think one of these would be a better option. For those of you that have used the Evolution brand They have a Rage2 for around $189 and the Evosaw380 (old Rage3) f...

Re: first time TIG welding problems

My helmet arrives tomorrow so I plan to do some practicing this weekend. I've been reading through the forums a lot as well as watching many videos and reading many help documents from the various manufacturers. From what I've learned just by my research, I've been doing a lot wrong! Too small cup s...

Re: Looking to buy metal saw..

What about the Portaband type saws? I see a lot of these used with the Swag Offroad table and from what I've read pretty accurate. You can pick those up used on Craigslist pretty cheap. I'm in the market for a saw for the same reasons above, my abrasive disc chop saw just isn't accurate enough so th...

Re: first time TIG welding problems

I'm pretty sure the AlphaTig is rated down to 10 amps but I didn't check it, that number keeps popping into my head. I was in my local welding store today (AirGas supply) because I think I'll be going through electrodes faster than I want to and I didn't have any 1/16 inch consumables. They had both...

Not sure, not being able to see the puddle made it difficult to tell. Hopefully the new helmet will help with that.
I'll experiment with it some more this week.

first time TIG welding problems

Well, Got my new AlphaTig 200 up and running and went to throw some practice beads and had all sorts of trouble. The first problem was my helmet, I kept getting flashed and was having a hard time seeing. I was using my old helmet I used to use for MIG and could not get the thing to work right no mat...

Re: Welding Rod Question

Thanks for that clarification Dirtmidget, I did pick up some 70-S2 as well as 4043 and had planned to get the other filler rods as the welds required. I write technical manuals for a living so I tend to over analyze instructions a bit and Jody's instructions made me question what I thought I knew. O...

Re: Welding Rod Question

There's a ER318 tig filler rod? I guess it would help if I were to proof what I wrote a little better  Not sure where I got the 318 from, getting old and being new to TIG I don't have the numbers committed to memory yet. So that leaves me with the question; is 312 a better option (if it will ...

Re: Welding Rod Question

did you mean "308" ? or 312 as opposed to 318 That's why I'm a bit confused, In the first lesson he says that you really only need E70S2 for mild steel and 308 for Stainless. Then in the next lesson he says that 318 is better and will work for both stainless and mild steel. So I guess wha...

Welding Rod Question

For welding most Steel, is 312 Stainless better as welding rod in lieu of the E70S2? A contradiction in Jody's TIG Basics email lessons has me a bit confused. In one lesson Jody recommends 308 and E70S2 for Steel and in another he recommends 318? On lesson number 2 he stated the following: "Tig...

Re: 3D printed Tungsten Sharpener

I've been thinking about using the same disc from Princess Auto to make a grinder yours needs a hole below the disc, slotted on the side in case you have to cut off a tip. They say not to grind the tungsten sideways because of tracking by the abrasions it looks about 50-50 in the pic. I was using o...

3D printed Tungsten Sharpener
