I live in Alexandria and have been looking for welding instruction besides OJT in my garage. The only school that has a welding curriculum that I a aware of is in Manassas 35 miles away at an impossible time of day and unless you lived in a box in the parking lot of the school.

Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum.
You might try and see if there is a shop near you that would be willing to train you for a fee, or hire you and train.

You could also check the local high schools for their vo-tech training. These courses are usually open to adults (and sometimes available in the evening), with a tuition fee.]

One caution with this route... Check the instructor's qualifications. Many high school level vocational/technical programs in welding are not staffed by broadly- or highly-skilled instructors, but it's worth investigating.
