Is there something we can make?, some service we can offer?
How can we make a positive difference?
General welding questions that dont fit in TIG, MIG, Stick, or Certification etc.
Get everybody together and weld up the tallest fence all around the country. Weld up the gates at airports, sea ports, etc. Deal with who has the virus already in the U.S, until they figure out where the virus came from, and how to cure it. Doable? Dunno, but you asked what welders can do to help.

Dont be part of the problem.
If sick stay home.
Practice a good level of hygiene, wash hands often, clean down with sanitiser shared areas, ie lunch tables, work desks, phones etc.
And above all PANIC, it will let the media think they are useful, maybe not.
Less than 200,000 cases out of 7.4 billion, with a less than 10% death rate, its not quite the 1917 to 1920 spanish flu pandemic that killed 20 million is it.

was this "virus" here before and the health care pros have over looked it as a different strain until the hysteria struck? Dunno for sure, but it is certainly turning up in places where no one brought it in and no one was associated with anyone that already contracted it. Pay attention and practice good hygiene.
Yup death rate is only about 2%. Mostly older men. Made sure my life insurance was paid up. Rolling the dice and washing my hands. Good knowing you all.ex framie wrote:Dont be part of the problem.

If I die from the virus yes.
Edit
It has to be a proven and confirmed case. But the US doesn’t yet have a way to rest for the virus. So don’t hold your breath.
Edit
Plus you still have to pay for shipping!

When I started this thread, I was seriously hoping for suggestions on some projects we could do to help.
Maybe something like a SS table for the triage tent at the hospital.
Just playing with a few numbers..... the flu typically kills 30,000 to 40,000 each year in the US. About the same as get killed on US highways each year. It has a fatality rate of about .1%
The Coronavirus has a fatality rate of about 3.4% (34 times higher than the flu) If the same number of people catch it, as catch the flu....... then we are talking close to 1.4 million deaths.
Now for the really bad news......... humans have some immunity to the flu, because we have been exposed to it for years. This reduces the number of folks that get sick each year.
We have no acquired immunity from the Coronavirus. It is quite possible that a lot higher percentage of the population will get it.
3.4 % of the US population is over 10 million people.
Maybe we need to be welding up a bunch of crematoriums.

Sawyer, the info that is being fed to US is not complete. They are trying to give numbers gained across the world and comparing them with the info from the states. They are saying so many people died in china, BUT, they don't say what they died from. I can't believe that the virus hasn't been around for a while and now, since an election year, they are "pretending" to care and use numbers that they don't even know what they are.
Besides, I don't want Josh's underwear...I'd look like big foot in a thong.

It just seems that the virus is acting much like any other virus...knocks the heck out of those who suffer from pre-active conditions or compromised conditions.
Josh, IF anything happens to me, I've ordered my bride to send you my thong, will it be ok?.....depends
We can all horse around (It's my nature,,been thru too much) to make life enjoyable. Pay attention, practice good hygiene, stay safe and carry on.

Jesus! It'll be my son's dream come true. He thinks he will get to take over all my toys. I told his mother to sell it all.Poland308 wrote:Old and male are the high risk pool. Good knowing you all.

Dangit Coldman,
I was going to let them post nice biographies, then tell them all we wanted to know, was the address and alarm codes for their shop.
You let the cat out of the bag too soon.
