General welding questions that dont fit in TIG, MIG, Stick, or Certification etc.
Hello, I'm not a welder, but I have a welding question. The weld holding my snowblower impeller to the shaft has broken, so the blades now spin freely around the shaft. Is it possible from a welding perspective to have it re welded in place. Without having to take it apart. Thanks
It's probably not a broken weld. Usually snowblowers have a set of shear pins to keep the impeller from spinning on tíhe shaft. These are designed to break first, to protect the rest of the machine if you hit a rock or something. If it is welded, someone likely did that after it came from the factory because they didn't know how to replace the shear pins.

If it can be accessed, then yes, it can be welded again.endgrain wrote:Hello, I'm not a welder, but I have a welding question. But understanding why its welded in the first place and not "pinned" is probably pretty important too.
I've got a 20+ year old Cub Cadet tractor w/48" blower which needed a considerable amount repair this year. I was actually shocked at how easy it was to disassemble and reassemble the entire unit to do a rebuild. I ended up doing a lot of welding on the thing, but definitely not welding the augers to the auger shaft. As Louie says, there's a shear pin or two which should be replaced.
Please take a few pics and post them here.
