General welding questions that dont fit in TIG, MIG, Stick, or Certification etc.

Newbie here. Haven’t been a member long. Looks like a great forum with lots to read. I’m a member over on Weldingweb and also on various machinist forums. Someone mentioned getting pro’s to come into forums. Plenty do. Forums aren’t just for learning. In my case I come to forums to socialise. To talk about things I’m interested in. I’d love to talk to older guys who came up using older machines. I love that stuff.
The issue with forums where you have both pro’s and hobbyists is that you can get a culture clash. Hobbyists often cannot relate to the needs and demands of professionals.
This morning I went out and brought 8 metres of 2/0 70mm2 cable for an earth lead. I was going to post about it but I quickly realised that most people can’t relate to that.
I started a thread on another forum about the wiring in my shop. It started off good but the thread died really quickly and I quickly realised it was because my thread was about a 3 phase wiring installation and most of the people reading were hobbyists who couldn’t relate to it.
I stopped watching the Miller and Lincoln YouTube channels because I found the videos were more and more directed to hobbyists and metal artists. I as a viewer want to see professional and industrial content.
You can’t please everybody.

On a machinist page on Facebook the topic of large drill bits and drilling stainless steels came up.
Someone made a comment saying “who ever is going to have to drill a 2” hole into 316 stainless?”. Technically he was right. Most people would never need to do that.
But in my job that’s not an uncommon task to have to do. Nothing unusual about it.

Tho the 2x4s weren't the problem. It was the 16 guage 24X36" connector plates getting pressed into 2 southern yellow pine 2x8s.
