General welding questions that dont fit in TIG, MIG, Stick, or Certification etc.

this weld has been in service for at least 30 years. it's part of a locking device that opens and closes a cell door. it looks like a mig weld and has no penetration but was still strong enough to have cycled thousands of times till tonight. repairing this is job #1 for the morning.

It looks like a cold weld, I have a few blokes where I work that refuse to crank up the amps, their welds resemble chicken shit, but going by your pic, chicken shit holds...... :D

not only cold but maybe stainless steel also. i'll find out later this am when i grind it off.
