Nice find - I like that - truly "melting metal with the power of the sun" - I wonder what the largest available lens of that type is capable of - or maybe an array of them arranged to a common focal point - that would be worth seeing .

I would like to see a CNC system set up for solar welding.
The XYZ table would position the metal to be welded.
Sensors would keep track of the heat affected zone
in order to make a good weld. (Just thinking out loud...)

There are many ways of making low cost lenses.
- Parabolic shaped metal that is highly polished.
- A block of ice can be made into a very large lens.
I have often started camp fires with a soda can and a chocolate bar.
