Handler 150 broken trigger

The trigger on my old Hobart Handler 150 broke and I couldn't find a new one since that model is discontinued. I first made a new wooden one but it soon broke too. Not sure if parts are available, but here's my solution. I used modeling clay for a mold and made one from fiberglass.

I've made parts this way for other things in the past. Modeling clay makes a quick and easy mold. Just make it a little oversize and sand to final shape. It is a bit messy. I learned from experience that the kitchen table is a bad place for such projects :lol:

Interesting. It was about a year ago when I tried to buy a new switch and my Airgas dealer wasn't able to find one for my machine. He said the company changed torch styles somewhere along the line and the first model was not supported. Shrug. I got it fixed anyway :D

According to my ex-wife, chainsaw rebuilding is also not on the list for the kitchen table :o :lol:

That was 20 years ago, 20 below zero, and did not own a garage or shop.

Made sense to me, and I used newspaper under it :D

Kitchen table makes perfect sense for chainsaws in my book - just try not to spill too much chain oil though ! so what did she expect you to use ? - she sounds unreasonable to me - so if kitchen tables are'nt meant to be light duty benches how come they make small clamp on vices for them ?

I know a guy who was building a home built helicopter and was washing parts in the sink with gasoline, went down to the basement and started welding and promptly burnt his mom's house to the ground. He lives alone now.

About the only time anyone in my house actually eats at the table is on Thanksgiving, so it seems only logical to use it for a workbench the rest of the time. As a plus, the fridge is just a few feet away :D

I think the fridge proximity is a double plus - they have nice flat tops for storage of parts / tools that overspill the table & you don't have to go far if you get the muchies or it's beer oclock !
