I often wake up from a dream with these crazy inventive ideas in my head. I write them down right away, so I don't forget them. I must have been dreaming about my SA-200 engine driven welder last night, because I had this dream about being up on top of a shipping container on my acreage and someone driving up to talk to me. I couldn't hear him over the engine noise, so I reached into my pocket and turned off the SA-200 with a car start remote.

The idea stuck in my head when I woke up and I decided to write it down. I can see where this idea could come in handy. My SA-200 will be used mostly in the field, so walking back and forth in the mud and muck can be avoided with a remote starter. The same goes with going up and down ladders. The bottom line is that fuel is expensive and if the welder doesn't need to be running for a short period of time, why not shut it off and save a bit of fuel and noise. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylAM3pdMSS4

Or get a stop start thingy of a new car (the kind that cuts the motor when you are not moving) and fit that to it.

I like that idea a great deal! You should run with it!

I can think of many situations where, even on industrial work, the machine idles six of ten hours, and if it's your fuel, it's your money.

remote starts for welders have been out for a long time. think I have seen them on ebay and I know I have seen threads related to them.

but I know nothing about the venerable SA200 so I shouldn't generalize.
