I noticed on your mig 4g test demo that you weave your bead. Shipyards use straight smooth beads that layer individually and are ideally equal in with, stacking them to fill the gap. Why the difference?

When comparing Weaved vs Stringers, a couple of arguments I've heard is that the weave has a bigger pool and more chance of burning in (fusion) and or burning out any little voids. But the higher heat input can cause more distorsion. I have heard of stringers being speced because of this reason. Also to keep the heat input down on heat sensitive materials. But sometimes its what the customer or the test examiner wants, they gets.

I don't know a real lot about this stuff, maybe someone who does it all the time can explain it all better.
