When you judge political commercials because the welder isn't wearing a jacket or gloves. ( yes it has happened)

I liked the comment about errant patches of skin that no longer grow hair!
I'm working tomorrow, just one other guy and me, and I'm going to get him to take a picture or three of me making the weld I have to do tomorrow, so I can contribute something to this topic.

Just be careful Steve, let's not have one of those, "here hold my beer and watch" moments...Otto Nobedder wrote:I liked the comment about errant patches of skin that no longer grow hair!

That won't happen. This is a fix of one of my f#$kups.
Not a happy camper, but getting time and a half to get it right, so it's all good.
How's that go? One "Oh, Shit" will undo a thousand "attaboy's."

Richard, you won't believe the stupid crap I did to put myself in this position. That flange repair you saw on IG? I back-welded the inside of the pipe because of being surprised by the second crack. I prepped it with my straight die grinder and a SS wire wheel. Well, screw me, this was a "front exhaust" die grinder, and was puking oil mist and water when I "thought" I was cleaning the weld area. So it failed helium leak test. So I had to back up 5 yards and punt.
I used to keep that die-grinder dry, no oil, and use only nitrogen to power it. So I expected it to be clean. I forgot that I'd planned to retire it from that service (out of balance/bent shaft) and used it anyway.

Love the ones about burning clothing, the first couple times it's "oh sh*t, I'm on fire", then it's "eh, finish the bead"
When your coffee cups have spatter on them...when you have a box full of perfectly good right hand gloves...when the scrap in your yard is in the tons...when a bottle refill trumps your phone bill...

Why do welders only get 10 minute breaks? Any longer and they would have to be re-trained.LtBadd wrote:welders do it with a hot rodTom Osselton wrote:You see the gf naked and say I can fix that!

If you think sliding under this pipe with everything removed from your pockets to make a weld is a "normal day".

I see an arc back in there but no welder I assume you have a torch switch and are not crammed in that space with a pedal between your legs

The pedal's on the chair... and that's my LED worklight in the hole.exnailpounder wrote:I see an arc back in there but no welder I assume you have a torch switch and are not crammed in that space with a pedal between your legs
I've got a thumb amptrol, but in this case, the pedal on the chair was easier.

You get really irritated every time you hear/read " mig welding is so easy, it's just like using a hot glue gun"

I learned how to weld at night, but not last night. (despite how my weld looks)
