So I'm building a cart for my new AHP tig machine (I suppose pics are mandatory?)
and yesterday I wet to attach the bottle bracket and tried to light the tig torch.
zzzzzthppstppsnorttudzappyzappyzappy!~ WTF?
I had left a magnet on the back side of the frame. I have been welding for over 20 years,
and I cant believe I never had this happen before, I even tried the MIG welder and same thing.
Took me a bit ti figure out what was going on ~ DERP!

I'm confused. What went wrong and then was corrected when the magnet was removed. Companies sell magnets as fixturing aids, never heard them cause a tig torch to fail to arc.

I have done that too. I've done it when Tig welding but never Mig...yet...
Sedanman...the magnetism causes the arc to wander like crazy..not sure about Mig process but try it some time on Tig.

yes, even the MIG went haywire, it is a large powerful magnet though.
I had just seen something about it on Youtube a few days ago as well.

That's the same weird effect that can happen when there are lots of diferent welders grounded far away on a structure from were your welding. It's the craziest thing and it takes a bit to realize what's going on.

This exact thing happened to me today! Never before have I had a magnet mess with my arc, that I knew of. Magnet was positioned at a right angle to my torch angle. Totally destroyed my stubby gas lens, melted the side of my cup. Definitely took me a bit to figure that one out! The arc focused on every sharp corner.Crazy

So what you need is a magnet that dosen't radiate the fields!
Ever heared of polymagnets ef-ing amazing, its a little bit in on the video.

Would be interesting to know the back story of how that all came about.
