Noob here. So I bought a stick of 304 stainless pipe to practice on, but printed on the pipe is 304/304L. Which is it? Does it even matter? TIG welding.

Have done a lot of stainless pipe work, customer used to demand that the grade was 316L, not 316. Anymore the material is dual certified.
In your case it doesn't matter as CJ already said.

Neary all 300 series stainless steels are made in ā€œLā€ low carbon these days. This prevents undesirable carbide precipitation during the welding process. No change in properties or performance otherwise.
