Welding Tips and Tricks

hi guys and girls, I need some help here.

I went to clean the nozzle on my mig gun yesterday and when I removed it the gas diffuser came off with it and I cant get them separated. I tried holding the diffuser with needle nose pliers but couldn't keep it from slipping so I stopped to keep from ruining the threads. I don't expect the lws to have the nozzle and diffuser in stock so I am looking for ideas on how I can separate the parts without destroying them.

90% chance you'll be replacing the tip anyhow, and possibly the difuser as well since both are considered consumables.
Put aa drop of your favorite penetrating juice on it and let it set a few hours. If it's corroded it won't be coming apart without serious twisting.

Might as well order up some replacement tips, they're cheap.

When you put it back together use a little Neversieze on the threads, or even some tip gel and use care to not crossthread.

Thanks Franz, I got lucky and LWS had the parts so all is well. I had this happen at work once and got the diffuser out but of course when it was on my time I couldn't remember how I did it, I do remember there was some cussin involved though.

Franz, I got home last night and when I went to pull the nozzle it came of alone leaving the diffuser in place as it should.

when the problem popped up I just cleaned it the best I could without getting the diffuser out and spayed it all down with cooking spray and went back to work, I guess the heat drew enough oil in to break everything up and everything came off in the order it should. I replaced all the consumables anyway and cleaned the old to put up for spares since I live just shy of fifty mile from the closest place to get anything like that.

Glad it worked for you.
The difuser coming out on that gun isn't an unusual event, I have one on my Loncoon portable, and it's probably a 50/50 shot. I also find Lincoon contact tips seem to wear faster than Miller and some othere, your mileage may vary.

Both of the links I sent you are very low prices, comparable to what the LES pays their supplier. You might consider having an inventory of consumables on hand a good investment.
