Hello all,
Well, I was digging around on Offer Up and I came a crossed this beautiful old brass head ball peen hammer. I thought that some here might be interested in taking a look at it. It's an Ampco H5, about 14 1/4" long, with a 2-1/4 pound head. Has anyone owned one, or own one now? Any idea of the manufacture date? It's a gorgeous old hammer, and I just had to have it. Doubt I'll even use it. It's just going to go up on the wall to be admired, lol.
Anyway, thanks for looking.

Are you sure it's brass and not beryllium?

It's aluminum bronze, see the lower photo.
Now you have a real nice, non-sparking hammer. They don't make them like that any more.............

Yup, aluminum bronze, not copper. I saw the ALBR on the side, and still thought brass. My mistake. Still a nice old hammer. I'm still digging around to find a manufacture date. 60's? 70's?

You can still get them. there marketed through safety companies as nonsparking tools. we see them in the corn alcohol plants all the time. You can get wrenches and screwdrivers and pliers.

Yes, you can still get them, but not like this one. I just liked the shape of the head, and the style of the handle. It just screamed old school cool.

Send the pics to Ampco ? They've been round since 1922.

Ampco also make a wide array of filler metals for different types materials. Ampcotrode is one of their trade marks.

I heard back from Ampco today. The best they could say is that is pre 2001, because that's when they switched over to the fiberglass handle and new flashy paint scheme. They don't stamp their tools with production dates, so there is no way determine that.
So, bottom line is that it's a nice heavy aluminum bronze ball peen for $20 bucks. And that's that.
