Is there a book or books that will help identify metals and the best rod to use for welding? I'm in a 9 mo. community career school. I feel the hands on training I'm getting is good however, they are not covering types of metals and what rod to use.

Jody recommends this book quite often: https://ssl.lincolnelectric.com/lincoln ... rodnum=MHW (Metals and how to weld them)

I took jody's advice and got that book and it has been nothing but helpful and do truely believe every welder should own that book or have it at there disposal.
