Welding Tips and Tricks

There was a time when I only needed my "gas spanner" to fit and remove regulators and gas hoses.
Now the regulator nuts are different sizes - 28.6 mm, 28 mm, 25.4 mm (1") and others. That's a pile of spanners or a shifter that always needs shifting.

Just because one standard is good, it doesn't mean that several are better. No doubt there will be a gas multi-tool on Wish soon.

That's progress I suppose.

I find a 1 1/8 spanner for reg to bottle and 3/4 spanner for lead gets me out of trouble but you can use a mobile lathe (shifter) for it.

The nicest thing about standards is, everyone can have their own.

Oh I forgot, I saw a multi tool spanner in gasweld yesterday. In the welding section. $ 9.95
I have too many shifter to bother but yeah it's out there.

So all your regulators require the same size spanner? I have CIG, BOC and several others and they don't.

In the context of spanners, I have no idea what that means.

Sorry, I don't know what that means either. Multitools at Gasweld are not spanners.

Take a guess you'd probably be surprised.

To be honest though I don't have a clue how old that wrench really is. I just know it's been here since I got here.

I also know our shop can make a tool look like that within a couple years, lotta acid fumes floating around and allotta moisture

Oh god I'm glad I wasnt around in the 60's I've been told that in The 60's the smoke was so bad in the shop that it was a constant haze with some areas being so thick you could hardly see your hand in front of your face. You could argue that was also the hay day of the industry though

And of course back then it was lead/muriatic acid/flux fumes (not sure what they were using as flux but can bet it was more volatile then today's flux)

Ah, I thought it was lysergic acid diethylamide and tetrahydrocannabinol.

I'm not sure if I should be relieved or disappointed.

Ehhh wouldn't shock me of that was in some of the workers systems like alot of people of that era [emoji14]

The good ole days as the ole boys call em. "Nobody cared if you were messed up on this or that as long as the job got done right and quickly" can't tell you how many times I've heard that rant.
