Hey,
Clad or buttering is sometimes called "overlay" and is welding beads of weld onto a parent metal to protect it or give it other properties . Like Stainless overlay or inconell. Used in furnaces to protect the boiler tubes from the harsh environment.
Ceramic backing tape is where bits of refractory ceramic are stuck on the back of a weld joint to support the weldmetal, they then fall off so the other side can be welded with a minimum of preparation .

In that "Modern Marvels" episode on welding, they show how they use explosive welding to make "Clad" for uses in reactors and refineries. that show was kinda dull at times cause it gave the basic rules of welding for the laymans but very informative when it came to practical applications like the underwater and highrise construction.

Jwmcawful,
This is not a job board. There's a place for that here, though rarely used.
I'm no fan of Ameri-Farce, but i'd like to NOT see this forum descend into bashing recruiters. We all know, wink, and go on...

No harm, no foul...
My response to Jmmcawful wasn't really called for, either... I participate on other forums, and my spelling, "Ameri-Farce" was intentional.
Sometimes my attitude in a response carries over from another question somewhere else.
I'll try to watch that in the future.
