need some tips for welding upside down what kind of rod works the best and whats the trick to it. I am trying to weld some 5/16 angle to some 3/16 plate

If you say "rods, I'm guessing stick????
And upside down as in overhead?
And is it a filet, but, or lap joint???
How new are you to welding?
What size machine do have?
I would recommend(for me) a 1/8 7018 at about 135amps....
But, how much weight is gonna be on this "part"???
A lot more information will be extremely crucial to our helping you do it the "right" way???

I remember getting chosen to weld hanging over the edge of a boat top while another welder sat on my legs while reparing a davit off the back of a sail boat. All because I had the lighter helmet with the tightest headgear. One of those, abs and armpit welds.

Those are the best, right along side your skinny enough to get in there, and I'm not welds lol
