Welding Tips and Tricks

So, I've taken some classes at the local community college and feel pretty comfortable with the stick so far. Staring Oxy, Mig and Tig this next semester. My question is......... I'm considering one of these http://www.lincolnelectric.com/en-us/Eq ... nElectric) as an entry level machine and am currently restoring a 1952 Willeys CJ-2A and was wondering if any of you have had a chance to use this welder and what your thoughts are. What will be my general limitations with this welder as a hobbyist ?

Hey mate. Welcome to the page. From what I hear, that's a killer machine. That should take care of most anything a hobbyist could do. Expect alum Tig, as it's DC only.

It is and it isn't the answer. For a hobbyist, with time on your side, these machines, especially Lincoln, are perfect. They are perfect for a lot of people. Only problem comes if it breaks, but if anything breaks, you're in trouble. I'd still look at it. That's an Australian view buy the way, where these machines still run around 1200$ or more. Maybe possible to buy a few machines for same where you are.

I have had one of these for a little while now and I love it. I've done a little stick welding with it just for kicks and it did fine with 7018 and was ok with 6010 but not great. It MIG welds like a dream on anything within its capacity. Nothing not to like imho.
