what does schedule mean In pipe

Hiya.
I have done a lot of fabrication using box section and plate but not done much work with pipe and tube but I am planning to do some pipe work soon.
So if anyone one can explain what schedule mean as I dont understand.

Pipe schedules refer to wall thickness with constant outside diameter. Here is a link to a common chart.

Also tube is NOT called out by schedule. IOW a 4" tube will have a 4" OD with a given wall thickness. Ex. 4" by .065" wall
