Hello,

I recently saw the video of "Mig like Tig" and was wondering if this is something you were trying to achieve? Or am I even close myself? Thanks for the feedback.

God bless, Austin. :)

Yes, Austin,

That was the general idea on that post.

There was much debate on strength comparisons between a constant-speed run versus the step-pause needed to make a weld like that without a "pulse-enabled" machine.

There was little consensus, as each approach can be done in differing ways.

Opinion follows:

If rated strength is required, a smooth constant rate bead with appropriate settings and angles will outperform a "step/pause" method, for more constant penetration and fewer stress risers in the deposited metal.

It's hard to disagree with that. Real nice, for sure.

I was taught a technique by my first welding boss 30 yr ago how to fill gaps onsite with a stick.
Drag the arc well forward so as to let the puddle cool a wee bit then roll back into it. After watching vid I started pissing around at work with the MIG and pretty much got close to what the guy with the grouse workshop does. Try it, take the arc well forward and do a loop or whatever gives you a mongrel. My 2 bob.
