Pipeline welder rig

I'm new to this form I've been a welder/fabricator for 6 years or so now I'm 22 and I was wondering about pipelining I think the Lincoln vantage 300 would do but do I really need a 300 amp welder or will a smaller one work for starting out in the pipeline industry any advice or what kind of welder and why to buy it would be helpful thanks for your guys answers
