Hey there. I'm a mechanic fabricator turned millwright soon to be retired. I started out as a mechanic working on heavy equipment and trucks. After the market crash in '08 I took a job in a steel mill as a fast tracker to a millwright position in the crane repair department. At the mill I ended up as a crew chief in the out gang. We do all the on site repairs. It's a lot of hard work. We do everything there is to do to a crane from grease jobs to removing and replacement every component. There is a lot of welding involved and I must say that, the welding is my favorite part.
