Hello my name is Wes Bachman. I am an experienced Moldmaker that is looking to refresh my memory regarding TIG welding various Tool Steels.
I learned some 30+ years ago on a Miller stand alone 250 amp TIG welder water cooled and with a foot pedal. Currently I have access to a small 200 amp Tig / Stick inverter unit with a trigger torch.
I am looking for suggestions for amp setting using a .040 electrode and .040 312 St Stl filler rod.
My primary objective is to be able to weld up parting line damge to I can remachine to production level.
I am looking forward to discussing and/or receiving any feed back this forum has to offer.

Welcome to the forum!!!
If I had more present experience with TIG I would help out but, like you, I haven't messed with TIG in a while (not 30+ years, probably a tenth of that but still I'm a bit foggy on it. If one was already set up I'm sure I could stack some dimes but to set up I would probably burn up someones machine )

Do it right the first time, or don't do it at all!

What is the base metal? I need some more info to help you. You say tool steel and the most generic or versitile rod to me would be S7 pretty much good for anything tool related. give us some specs om base metal and we can go from there,
I stack dimes for a living so i can stack dollars for a paycheck.

Just a couple welders and a couple of big hammers and torches.
