Hey! Steve here...
So pretty much a complete beginner at welding or not even a beginner at this stage! Over the past few years I've found myself confronted with situations where I just wish I could fab up something, be it a tool/stand/repair etc and wished I could weld....
So that brings me here as I've decided to just get out there and start learning to TIG weld ( I feel it's more universal for the stuff I might encounter down the track )

Basically I'm a weekend garage warrior and find myself do everything from building bike engines to odd mechanical work. I'm also a bit of an 'inventor'/'engineer' type...

So... I'm slowly building up a range of tools to fuel my many ideas... 2 big things on my Wishlist...
-A good TIG welder ( aluminium/stainless/mild steel/titanium ).
-A metal lathe.

So that's me :)

Anyways I'll post up some more questions in relevant forums.
Mike

Welcome to the forum Stevo... another crow eater that makes 3 of us :D

What kind of budget are you wanting to spend on a machine?
A half decent machine set up for aluminum(up to 6mm max) with all the bits needed to get started will start from about $3k(200amp machine/watercooler plus consumables)here in Ozstrayla.
A big name brand will cost you double that easily
