My name is John.
Being able to adequately weld metals other than mild steel has been on my bucket list since I retired in 2010.
I was starting to think I'd left it too late until I went out and bought a 200 amp AC/DC TIG machine for my 71st birthday last month.
I've watched most of the videos several times and I'm almost through my 2nd E size argon bottle just practising on scrap.
It's only for hobby stuff and I work in a tin shed on our little 2 acre property.
I've been MIG welding mild steel for the last 10 years as a hobbyist.
Looking forward to learning a lot from this forum and sharing my experiences where possible.

G'day John , Welcome to the forum , i grew up in Morayfield back when the only shopping centre was in King st Caboolture . Wow haven't times changed. my folks are still there on their 5 acre property. Maybe catch up sometime when i visit them next.Good luck with your tig adventures.

Troy, we've only been here 21 years but it's vastly changed in that time. We're lucky we live in a cul de sac with other 2 acre lots. Means a lot less traffic and noise.

Only having trouble with 40C temps in the shed..
. The rest will fall into place with time and practice.
I decided to concentrate on aluminium filet welds because they're proving to be the most challenging.
Another couple of argon refills should start to show some progress.

That'd give anyone trouble.
Have you been watching Jodys videos? Aluminium fillets have a few tricks involved but once it clicks, you'll wonder what the issue was.

Yes mate, probably been through them half a dozen times. It's how I start my day
I've seen some progress since my first filet attempts but I need more seat time to better understand the possibilities of this particular machine.
I don't stress over it, it's part of how I'm spending my retirement.
