Hi all name's Rob
I'm 33 and live in Melbourne Australia.
I'm a carpenter and mechanic by trade and am currently studying a cert 3 and 4 in engineering fabrication.
I'm doing pretty well as it is ment to take 68 weeks and I'm currently on my 8th week and am more then 75% threw.
Wish I had been this good in high school.
This course will give me a boiler maker qualification here in Australia.
Not sure if u have that trade in the USA but here it's one step above a welder.
Welders here in Aus, they weld and nothing else at all!
I have watched most of jody's vids and think he is of god like status lol.
I'm currently doing my first prac test for tig and am having a problem with my 2g plate.
But I'll make a new topic shortly to address that.

Rob

Welcome, Rob,

Yes, we have the boilermaker trade in the US, but since the trades here are far less regulated than in OZ, the definition seems to vary. Typically, though, a boilermaker here must know several trades, primarily welding, fitting, and ironwork.

I've never looked closely at the trade union definition of boilermaker.

I've seen some great work on "the awesome boileys page" out of OZ that here would be built by a "pipe fabricator", and installed on site by a boilermaker, as one example of the differences.
