I got bit by the welding bug 15 years ago while in college, but never pursued it as anything more than a hobby or a tool to fall back on when something broke around the shop. Yeah, I was basically a junkyard fabricator. Guilty as charged.
But I've recently picked it up again after my prior attempt at a "real" career went pear-shaped in the last year. I figure, you might as well get paid to do something you plan/aspire to be doing in your free time anyway.
As far as welding ability goes, I don't claim to have any especially. At the moment, I'm mostly practicing vertical uphill tee joints with 6011 on DCEP and short circuit mig. On the advice of one old-head pipefitter friend, I'm also searching around, locally, for a fab shop job as a helper or something similar.
I think that the welders I know have given me a lot of good pointers and advice, but I'm happy to be here and hopefully learn something new from you all, too.
