Howdy, new to the forum. I stumbled across the site about a month ago, and discovered the forum while researching some product reviews. This forum seems pretty laid back compared to other welding forums, so I decided to join.

A little background on me: I struck my first arc at the age of 12, and been hooked since. My father got me started, as he has worked in the field for many years, mainly doing SMAW.

I currently work as a aircraft structures mechanic/welder for a FAA part 145 repair station, and hold both airframe and powerplant ratings. Most of the welding duties is airframe and engine parts repair work. Stainless, aluminum, inconel, titanium, hastelloy, with some 4130 and occasional carbon steel.

Again, just wanted to say howdy and am looking forward to enjoying the forum, and hopefully learning some more tips and tricks! As the old saying goes, "ya never stop learning"

It's really too early yet to tell if I like the AlphaTIG or not. I'm pretty sure I do, but I've only got about 30 minutes on it -- and I'm going to be teaching myself to TIG with it. With assistance from Jody's videos and the great guys on this forum.

When I unpacked it, I was impressed with the fit and finish, and it all went together as it should. Between not knowing what I'm doing, a hand still recovering from surgery and the shop being too darn hot, my first attempt was less than stellar. Although I guess it could have been worse. Several very nice folks on this forum said it wasn't too bad for a first time, so I think there's hope. At this point it's safe to say that the AlphaTIG certainly welds a lot better then I do. Haven't tried it in stick mode yet.

You can read a bit more (and see the pic) of my first day with the machine at: http://forum.weldingtipsandtricks.com/v ... f=5&t=7448.
