Hey guys, going to get a hand held plasma and I was wondering what is the best and best value?

Looking at Hypertherm, Thermal Dynamics, and Miller mostly.

Cutting anything from schedule 40 to 1/2"

My Hypertherm 45 does okay on schedule 40, but for 1/2" you probably should go bigger. The Hypertherm is a great machine!

At work, we have two Thermal Dynamics Cutmaster 85's

I'm satisfied with both, on the whole, for their ability and precision, as well as access to consumables.

One machine, however, refuses to start reliably below 50*F... It does fine once it warms up. The mgmt. hasn't deemed it enough of a problem (very rare for both machines to be in use at the same time) to have it checked.

The heaviest cuts made so far were 1/2" 5053 aluminum, freehand, and the results were quite satisfactory.

Okay so it looks like we are going to go with a little cutmaster 52 since the thickets we will be cutting with it is sch 40 pipe
