Hello. I was wondering if some of you guys could help me?
I have not had to much experiance tig welding pipe, prefer stick.
but i got a possible job and they want me to tig weld pipe.
having a little trouble finding that sweet spot in the settings and i have limited material
Its would be greatly appreciated if you could help me out

The test is tig root 7018 fill and cap
im practicing for it and i have been using
3/32root opening(slightly less)
3/32 carbon steel filler
1/8 7018
i believe for the tig portion i have been running about 90 amps
does that sound right? Should i go more less? I just want an idea so i dont waste material blowing holes.
or not getting penetration.
Any tips would ne greatly appreciated. Trying to get in to the nuclear feild.

90amps is too slow for productively. Work up to 115amps for 5" root passes. 3/32" gap knife edge 3/32 wire lay wire technuque and get motoring.

I too like a hotter root. I run a 1/16 gap and 3/32 filler at about 120-130 amps depending on the day and the pipe. Use a small cup to get deep in the groove like a 4 or a 5. And watch you stick out. I like to hold the cup up to the groove and set the tungsten so that if my gun angle was 90 deg my tungsten would almost touch the imaginary top of my gap. That way when you lay your wire it gives you a bit of torch angle. Keep a short arc and don't try to weave wide on the root or hot pass. Only enough to to break down the edges.
I have more questions than answers
