Suggested welder(s)?
What Certifications would be necessary/useful?
I'm just looking for someone with experience in the field.. Is it a good area to do welding? Or should I do welding elsewhere?
Thoughts...???

Best way to figure out if pipeline is for you, is to hire as a "single-hand" welder. They provide the truck, rig, torch, etc. (get specific on the tools provided and personal tools required, and who buys consumables). You still make very good money without buying the expensive stuff, like the rigged-out truck and the $5M liability policy.
You'll know soon if this is the right path, and can build your bank on the way.
Check
http://www.roadtechs.com and look at the petrochem/fossil/offshore category. In the "go directly to the jobs" banner on the main page, it's the second icon.
EDIT... Just reviewed the site, and single hand offerings amount to one job right now... Might try "single hand welder" in other job search engines.

Thanks! That is super useful. In order to become a "single hand" welder, should I get certified in certain areas? 6g test? ect...
