I'm getting a lot of glass on my tig root. I'm running 70s2 tig wire at 90 amps. Is the glass normal? I'm taking a 2" 6 g test sometime next week and was wondering if it is should I get it all out before I run my hot pass or just burn it all out. Thanks

You "can" usually burn it out on the next pass, but for a test I'd sure prefer to hit it with a wire wheel in a grinder.

Like Otto said wire wheel it for a test but burn over it on an average day.

If you're getting excessive silicon residue, if could be the quality of the parent metal. In this case I would wire wheel every pass because even on an average day you don't want inclusions in your welds.
