Awright gang...I got adventurous today and beveled some pipe ...6" 1/4 inch wall in 6G...The plate has been a breeze..When it doesn't look like i want it,i change rod angle, play with amps or travel speed ..yada yada....This dam pipe is a DIFFERENT animal...I'm gona assume..(cuz this is ALL new to me) the wall thickness is an issue due to heat build up....3-12 oclock is ok..(gravitys my friend) .Other than me NOT being very stable, out of position, shakin like hell ...3-6 absolutley sucks....I'm talkin FFFUUGLY...What's the trick guy's??? ...I was all the way down to 85 amps..struglin with light ups & stickn..Once the rod heated up..(an the pipe)I cud move along.. Manipulating the puddle in a upward cresent shape...Its drip city 6-3.....Any suggestions ???? I ain't EVEN gona post pics..LMAO..

Are you running 1/8 7018? That thin of a wall thickness I'll run an 1/8 5p root but then use 3/32 7018 for the fill and cap. The heat builds up fast in that thin wall pipe to run 1/8. I run the 5p and the 7018 right around 85 amps.

Thanks arizona...Just saw this response from you..My 160sth doesn't have what it takes to push 6010 ...Someone said 6011 wouldn't be optimun, but they'd work better on my machine than 6010, seeins how I'm just practicin/learning...I bought a 10# can of 1/8 Lincoln 6010 5+p to practice rootin..(Before I found out it's not a 6010 capable machine). Can't keep um lit...Today I was doin 1/4" 2"x8" vertical fillet kicked on a 45 runin 130.then 120..110..Finally it dawned on me... ..That thin stuf can't handle what I been runnin on the 1" beveled plate....DUH!!!! At 85-90 amps(after it cooled down) they were hangin nice...Like I said...This is new & I'm pullin some real bonehead rookie moves..lol..Tomorrow I break out the pipe & some 3/32 7018's and get back at it...Thanks for the tips tho AZ..You were right on the money.....
