There is an idle arc on Craig’slist that is just over an hour away from me. I’ve been looking for a decent Dc stick welder. Can you guys give me a reasonable price I would think to offer him. I do like the older Lincoln’s.

Plug the model & code number into Lincolenelectric.com and see when it was made.

I have no understanding of what the seller means by recently updated, so I'd want to know what was updated and by who.

What the machine is worth in Wisconsin is not comparable to what the same machine is worth 100 miles away. You might try the Blue Book for Pawn Shops to see what loan value is. Bear in mind appearance of the cabinet is a big factor in value.

I bought a 200 amp MIG power supply with 2 80cf Argon cylinders and spool gun for $250- last year because it had lived in a barn with a leaking roof and the cabinet had rust. Pulled 1 side and looked inside to find a machine that looked like it did the day it left the factory. The owner explained to me he wasn't a MIG man, tried it once and didn't like the result.
I didn't bother telling him E70s6 wire don't work well with Argon.

Read closely. The seller upgraded to a new welder and that’s why the posted one is for sale.
I have more questions than answers

I did.
It's still a shabby looking Lincoln ergo not worth a lot. $300 top money here and that would happen after looking under the hood and test driving.

I want to know the machine ain't been dropped, not even an inch, and that can only be determined looking inside.
The seller knew enough to put the model and code numbers in the ad which indicates he either had 20 calls asking for them, or he's bought a few Lincolns.
Similar machines from schools here with less than 2000 hours all shined up will only bring 700

If it welds and functions as it should, I would give $200-$400 depending on what comes with it. If it comes with everything you need to TIG weld then maybe a bit more.

I was going let it sit for a few more weeks and see if he’ll take $150 and no more. I need to be putting more money away for vacation.

Vacation is absolutely more important than owning a welder.
Maybe you should call and ask if he'll take Master Card.

So maybe they need the space more than they need the money...might be worth a lowball offer.

or just go get either one of these. These are probably a better choice anyway:

I know you said you were saving for a vacation, but this is a STEAL, and a damn fine stick welder as well as a TIG welder: https://milwaukee.craigslist.org/tls/d/ ... 07114.html

$700 for a syncrowave with a cooler is a real bargain if it works. I wouldn't even haggle over the price. The cooler alone is worth $2-300.
