High Yield steel HY80 HY100 mil-10718 rod

I'm flying out on saturday to go work at a shipyard that builds and repairs Navy ships.... carriers, subs, destroyers. Cool stuff but I didn't realize until my contact told me today they use high yield steel. Makes since being what they go on but does anyone have any experience with it? I don't. Sounds like it will be mostly HY80 and HY100. I worked at another shipyard for 10 years, not really fitting and welding but I picked up the skills because I had to in the machine shop where I worked 6 of those years. I did spend 1.5 years on a steel repair crew and thats really where I learned most of it.
They gave me common amps to run it at and told me it quite a bit different than mild steel and to watch my heat.
I'm also going to be using mil-10718 welding rod. I was going to pick some up to practice with but the minimum quantity was 2200 lbs lol soooooo I didn't get any. I do have a hour to practice. If I pass the test I will be a fitter and hopefully an advanced fitter if I can learn quickly with the oxy/propane torch, I'm good with acetylene but don't really have anywhere to learn propane until I get there.
Any help would be appreciated. I'll just be a fitter, the test is on a 12" long, 3/8" thick piece of HY80 / HY100 in 3G and 4G. Its a single pass test.... sounds like a fillet because they will break some of them open.
Thank you
