slag

Yup, same question multiple forums.
I either Tig, Mig, or Fluxcore, haven't stick welded in at least 30+yrs. Anyway, been messing with some 6011, noticed no real slag on the welds. Even opened up a fresh, sealed box cause the first few I tried were old, and laying on the bench in the open. Normal for 6011? Any thoughts? Thanks!

Yep, 6011 and 6010 share that characteristic.

Scraping the weld with the chipping hammer is often all that is needed.

Wire wheel on angle grinder works good too.

I use a wire wheel or a brush. I’ll occasionally use a thin wheel if it’s on a pipe root and I think there might be a little stuck along the toes.

Cellulose coated basically covered in paper stiff stainless brush cleans the gray smokey powder off it's a good root rod for that reason gets in deep slag brushes off 011 ac/dc 010 dc both all positions works good on things found in the fence row or coated with 75 years of paint you can use it in a pinch to cut bevel and gouge by cranking the amperage though not pretty
