had a quick job today at work, patch up a gate.
used my small inverter stick welder but had a lot of trouble with the generator they provided.
only running 60 amps and while the genny was a little undersized it did actually run it. the problem was the genny would not rev up fast enough and the stick would go out.
its one of those high efficiency low noise inverter generators. but no rpm switch on it.

anyone got any tricks how to keep it lit while the genny ramps up?

Can you add a small load to the generator to keep it revving but not so big it starves the welding machine?

The issue is with the generator and not much you can do to it/about it to overcome the current capacity. Not all generators will run welding machines, even when they advertise ample range. I’ve had a similar issue with running a power saw on a generator in the field to cut steel. Damn thing wouldn’t keep the blade spinning thru a 1/“2 cut. Broke out the oxy torch and almost took it to the generator to teach it a lesson.

What kva is the generator
My 130a inverter mma and 160a acdc tig need a recommended 5 kva avr generator to start it properly , ended up getting a 8.7 kva just yo make sure :D
