I need to weld some 2" x 2" x 1/4" stainless angles to carbon steel tube steel to anchor some Indiana Lime stone. Can I use a 7018 or a 6011 to make this connection or do I need to use a stainless rod? Also what current AC or DC an polarity would you suggest? I believe the stainless will melt faster and I need to move a little quicker when making a pass.;

You should use a 309 stainless filler. That is designed for joining carbon steel to stainless. As far as welding, it will weld just like carbon steel.

Jim's, right. 309,304, 316 whatever for what your doing. Remember though the gas axe is out for cutting anything loose. You will actually like the way if runs in flat. I normally run on the hot side, but for overhead and vertical up I weld considerably less amps than I would for a low hy for example. And a word of warning....wear you eye protection, the slag likes to wait in ambush as the weld cools then will jump at you like it was launched off a spring board.
